I am relying on Canon keeping the materials consistent enough that relatively reliable colour is coming out of the Canon Selphy! And since the paper, thermo transfer, and printer are all from Canon. So no worry about a print head drying up. So for colour prints I've gone with the Canon Selphy printer. I just don't print enough at home to keep the print head on an inkjet printer from drying up. I got the cheaper option because I knew I wasn't going to bother trying to calibrate a printer. +1 on catching the ability to calibrate your colour printer. Since it is a spectrophotometer and not just a colorimeter I believe I should also be able to calibrate my color printer with the "ColorMunki Photo"
